Ian’s Update March 2016

Well, whilst the first part of the year is traditionally quieter, concert wise, there is plenty of rehearsal work going on behind the scenes. We are currently working hard on the “Film Gala” scores which we are very much looking forward to performing in April.

Screened-Music-Network-logoThere are some excellent arrangements of music featuring in some very well-known films. Film music is often written specifically for the film, although in recent years there has been an increasing tendency to include music which is already well known. A good example of this was “It had to be you” which Harry Connick featured in “When Harry met Sally”. This was notable in the sense that he brought the Big Band style of music to a whole new audience. It was influential in giving Robbie Williams the idea of recording a whole new album “Swing when you’re winning”. Taverham Band has of course performed its own selection from that album.

The Band is working hard on Tuesday evenings to ensure they really bring the film scores to life. It is of course a great opportunity for everyone to hear the music without the “distraction” of the on screen action. The music is critical to any film but sometimes of course doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.

Catch Taverham Band’s Film Gala concerts on 22nd and 23rd April at Taverham village hall.  The programme will include music from;  Mission Impossible, Lord of The Rings, Out of Africa, Gladiator, Brave, Star Wars, Where Eagles Dare, Harry Potter, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Dances With Wolves, Star Trek, Pirates of The Caribbean and  633 Squadron.
