Ian’s Update February 2016

Christmas is always the busiest time of the year for the Band and 2015 was no exception. The December programme got underway at Mundesley Church where, for once, the North Sea elements were uncommonly mild, and continued with a popular “Festive Last Night of the Proms” at Frettenham Village Hall. The annual Candlelight Carol Concert at Taverham Church was, as usual, standing room only, providing the introduction to the Village Hall Christmas concerts.

This was the occasion for the introduction of guest celebrity appearances from Frosty the Snowman (an accomplished Eb bass player with a predilection for the lower registers); an elderly and overweight male Russian ballet dancer attempting unsuccessfully to gatecrash the Strictly Come Dancing Final, but settling for a lead role in “Mr Sandman” and outshining the regular percussion section in the process; and of course Father Christmas. Congratulations too to the ever-improving Training Band, several of whose members have achieved notable success recently in their Grade exams. A special ‘well-done’ to Alex Utting of the main band who achieved a Merit in Grade 8 trombone and a pass in Grade 5 piano in the same week!

The very next day saw the Band in a 6 hour marathon at Asda raising money for our Charity fund, which has benefited to the tune of over £2500 as a result of our 2015 activities; and finally on Christmas Eve, we welcomed in the festive season with the Carol Service at Ringland Church.

So once again it was a busy year. We are already starting to rehearse for our Spring Concerts at the Taverham Village Hall will be a little bit later this year with Easter falling as it does – so April 22nd and 23rd will be the dates and this will be a Film Gala Evening!

Tickets will go on sale from February!
