Ian’s Update May 2016

Well, Spring certainly “sprung” for the Band following sell-out concerts at Spixworth and, of course, Taverham Village Hall. We really do hope you were able to see our first shows of the year – demand for tickets grows every year – only Adele tickets were harder to get !

Our concerts mainly featured music from films with “Mission Impossible” opening the proceedings. “Star Wars” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” quickly followed, shaking the rafters of the Village Hall! At Spixworth we also included “Life on Mars” as a tribute to David Bowie. Many thanks to all of you who came along to support the Band – it is very much appreciated.

Looking to summer you should be able to spot us at various fetes and events throughout the region – check the website here for details.

We are currently preparing for our visit to Belgium in July, where we have the great honour of playing at the Menin gate WW1 memorial at Ypres. The memorial bears the names of 54000 men whose graves are unknown. The Band will play a series of concerts in the area and will visit the trenches which have been preserved in tribute. This will doubtless be a moving experience and will be another landmark in our ever-growing list of honours of which we can all be proud.

We hope you enjoy the summer and very much look forward to seeing you on our travels.

Finally, we were saddened to hear of the passing of Life Vice-President Geoff Townsend, who along with Phil Robbins, Alan Townsend and Roy Smith founded Taverham Band some 40 years ago.  Geoff was the last surviving founder and we send our thoughts to his family.
