Ian’s Update February 2015

December, as always, was the busiest period of the year for the Band.   We managed to fit in 19 different sessions or concerts with over 40hrs of playing time between 23rd November and 24th December.  A very big thank you to all those who supported us, especially with the four concerts in Taverham the week before Christmas with over 500 tickets sold.

2014 was another good year for our charity fundraising which this year was shared with a number of good causes including Norfolk Air  Ambulance, EACH, Mundesley’s ‘Togeher WeShare’ charity in memory of former Taverham resident Trevor Sizer, as well as several community projects for village halls and churches. We collected over £2350 which, when added to the proceeds from these concerts made a very satisfying £6000.

The development of our enthusiastic Training Band continues, with more and more youngsters enjoying the fellowship and fun of music making and performing – including a session at Tesco in Drayton which  succeeded in collecting in donations of £182.

The band is looking forward to another active year in 2015 and already the diary is beginning to fill up.

Our Spring concerts will be held at Taverham Village Hall on 27th & 28th March and tickets are now on sale.

Finally, we were saddened to hear of the passing of Life Vice-President Geoff Townsend, who along with Phil Robbins, Alan Townsend and Roy Smith founded Taverham Band some 40 years ago.  Geoff was the last surviving founder and we send our thoughts to his family.
