Ian’s Update December 2014

The band’s autumn concert marked a very special occasion, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the band’s foundation in 1974.  We were especially pleased to welcome in the audience two of our founder members and to present a concert which opened with the traditional march “Death and Glory” – the very first piece played at our very first concert – and thereafter featured a wide variety of music reflecting the band’s history,  combined with party fun and games in the form of a highly energetic “Pass the Parcel”.

The concert included an enthusiastic and accomplished contribution by our Training Band, reflecting how much work has been done together with the schools to encourage youngsters to learn a brass instrument.  Many of the trainees have subsequently graduated to the main band: the age range now spans from 9 years to 86!

As usual the band will undertake a busy programme in the run up to Christmas, including our traditional Candlelit Carol concerts and the ever-popular Festive Christmas Shows, as well as concerts at Mundesley and Watton plus various fund-raising and carol-playing activities. Book early to avoid disappointment!

May I, on behalf of the band, also take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
