Ian’s Update May 2013

Around 240 people enjoyed the ‘Spring’ Concert in March which despite the cold weather was a successful weekend. With music ranging from Big Band, The Beatles, James Bond themes and Irish dance there was something for all tastes.

The recent AGM highlighted some interesting statistics – with 25% of the main band being under 18, the average age of the Band being 34, and a total of 35 members under the age of 18 throughout the main band, training band or beginners having lessons in Taverham and Drayton.

The Band is currently working with Norfolk Music Services in becoming a formal part of the ‘music hub’ with a project over the next 5 years to increase the number of children learning brass from 19 to 60 in the area.  As part of this, the project would plan to provide instruments on free loan and subsidise tuition to allow all children who want to learn the opportunity to do so.

The estimated cost of the project will be £16,500 of which we are looking to raise £4500 of sponsorship over the 5 year period to add to grants and funds contributed by the Band.  If any individual or business is interested in helping us reach this £4500 target then please get in touch.
